Q: Will any garage door spring work on my garage door?

A: No, garage doors are designed with very specific tolerances, such as door weight, door height, track trajectory, as well as drum diameter and cable thickness. The type of spring is also a factor. Such as, extension or torsion? It is always best to consult your local door company to help guide you in the right direction for the right application.

Q: Can I replace my own broken spring?

A: Yes, however; it is not advised! We highly recommend talking with an experienced installer/service tech before attempting a repair yourself. Any type of garage door spring is under extreme pressure and could cause serious injury or even death. It requires special tools and a general knowledge that should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.

Q: Can I reuse my existing track and spring with a new door to save me some time and/or money?

A: In some cases, it is possible to use the existing track, if the door is the same thickness; however, reusing the old spring is really not a good idea. We highly recommend using the new track as well as the new spring along with the new door hardware. The door is engineered from the manufacturer for this purpose, and most companies will void the warranty if not used together. You may think that you are saving time and money, but in the long run, you may be costing yourself more money. Besides, you paid for a new door. Why take a short cut!
